Google Home is a smart speaker that’s connected to Google. The setting was easy and it has been fun having it. Just plug it in, connect it to the internet, and start asking questions. From serious questions like ‘what’s the highest mountain in the world’ to silly questions like ‘can you clean my room’.
On a side note, whoever programmed the answer of ‘Can you clean my room’ is a genius. It makes me laugh. Here is what Google says when I ask her to clean my room: “Let me try… *wind noise* Did anything happen? Sorry, I guess I can’t.”
Damn you Google for not wanting to clean my room!
Anyway, I’ve just bought a new mobile phone and have used it as a new Wi-Fi hotspot. This means the network name and password have changed and any devices I want to connect must update the name and the password.
As a result, my Google Home refused to talk to me. I’ve updated the app that controls Google Home, which is “Home”, but still got the ‘could not communicate’ error on the setting process.
So here is the simplest way to fix it:
1. Find the button that has a microphone on it (see picture below)
2. Press the button and keep pressing when Google Home says you’re about to reset it
3. Keep pressing (around 10-15 seconds) until you hear a quick melody confirming that the device is reset.
4. Go to your tablet or phone where you install the Home App and follow the instruction and voila! It works.
I can now talk to (and swear at) my Google Home again.
